Mobile Website DevelopmentMobile Websites

With recent studies reporting that more than half of smartphone users have used their mobile device to access the internet – it would appear that mobile phones are slowly replacing the PC as the preferred means of searching the web.

So what does this mean for businesses in the online world?

SALA Festival Mobile WebsiteIf you believe that a large proportion of your website users are accessing your site via a mobile device, it could be worthwhile investing in a ‘mobile version’ of your site.

A mobile website is generally a simplified design that remains consistent with the branding of your current site, but that is designed to fit within smaller screen sizes, be easier to navigate, and quicker to download.  These sites can be setup within the code of your original site, so that the site recognises when it is being accessed by a mobile device – and then the mobile site will then display in place of your regular site.

DBG have recently launched the very first mobile website for the South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) – pictured right:

This unique mobile website acts as a way for people wishing to access the Festival ‘on the go’ – they can not only search via artist, venue or medium, but they can also use the intuitive ‘Exhibitions Near Me’ function that taps into the mobile device’s GPS capability to map out exhibitions nearby.
