Rosenberg Machinery Group Website Case Study

International Education Services is the centralized unit within DECD (Department of Education & Child Department) that provide dedicated support and management of all international programs in South Australian government schools. They look after international students, homestay families, visitors and agents.

Strategic Plan: The team at International Education Services had undertaken solid preparation for the website project, so they were clear in their requirements and expected deliverables. The DBG team did further scoping in conjunction with the team to set out the key functionality and how it was going to be achieved.

Web Design & Development: Working with the marketing concepts IES had already had developed, the DBG team paid special attention to making the site look interactive and colourful in order to engage the younger users. It was important to also be mindful of the mandatory design requirements of State Government websites, including the logo and the information contained within the footer. The website was also designed to draw attention to some uniquely Australian imagery such as kangaroos, gum leaves, the flag, a koala – which were highlighted as important to help international users identify with the site.

Customised navigation was built into the website design to maximize the online experience of the users. Quick Links were developed for key areas of the site and deployed into the lefthand menu area – for example, a user reading information on an Agent’s page sees different lefthand menu items to someone who may be reading information on a School’s page.

The design also had to incorporate multi-lingual functionality. When translations are finalised by the IES team, the website will feature small national flags across the top of the design. This was the easy part, as the design then had to ensure that all translated menu items would fit within the layout, and some translations were much longer than others!

Content Management System (CMS): A custom CMS was created for the IES website that gives them control over the entire website – they can not only update pages and the content on them, but they can also control the information that displays within the secure login areas along with the users who are able to access them, the customised Quick Links (lefthand menus), and the large feature image.

A customised feature was developed for IES that allows them the ability to dynamically create online forms that feature throughout the website. They use this functionality to create forms for Student Application and the like.

The International Education Services website is a fun and vibrant, yet functional online portal that aims to cater to many different target markets simultaneously. Ease of navigation and user engagement were paramount concerns throughout the project and have been showcased well throughout the site.
